Did some early American settlers abandon their colonies to live among the Native American populations?

Shit, this is gonna get deleted by the mods cuz this is all educational conjecture, but in Canada we learned that struggling settlers frequently acclimated to Indigenous groups and societies. I distinctly remember learning about this in middle school. I would absolutely love to have more detailed input in this subject so that I could learn more than what was considered “a given” in basic education.

For example, I’m quite surprised that my father’s family lineage never interbred with the local Indigenous population since we came over in the 1600s. It was fairly common practice to take a Native wife but I guess my patrilineal ancestors found settler wives to start families.

Again, I have nothing to really reply to this inquiry but I hope I others have more info!
