I didn’t drink tonight at a gig

As a musician I can tell you it gets easier to go to these places without getting shit-faced.

At first it seems impossible. “Well, what about when they buy a round for the band? What do I do then?” Easy, you wave your hand in front of them and say “Thank you for the offer but I’m straight.” And then the person who bought the round gets all excited because they get to get up on stage and take a shot with the band and they get to feel like they’re a part of the action.

I usually bring a bunch of bottles of water too. If you’re gigging, no bartender / bouncer in their right mind will give you shit about bringing water into the bar. This way you’re not bugging the bartender, who is usually swamped with drink orders, for a measly glass of (free) water. And you don’t have to spend money to rot your teeth with soda. And then at the end of the night, they give you your cut and you get home safe with all of your gear while your band mates shit their pants hoping they don’t get pulled over (assuming you didn’t DD carpool with any of them and you’re in a band with idiots who drive after drinking.)

Annnnnd you get to see what last call looks like with a clear head, and just how fucking ugly it is.

Keep up the good fight!
