Didn’t realize how woke Philly is

Suburban kids who haven’t paid for dick, live in an apartment in fishtown on mommy and daddy’s budget, and have never experienced hardship. They hate themselves for that so they look for ways to convince themselves they are indeed persecuted and underprivileged, because that’s what the culture currently values.

The punk scene was about embracing status as an outcasts or misfit, and rejecting the mainstream. You could fall anywhere on the political spectrum really, more about being outside of mainstream politics. But the woke shit is the mainstream now, and “punk” isn’t really punk. How can it be when the people in the scene are in lockstep with mainstream ‘progressive’ politics. I hope/anticipate a new underground culture in cities like Philly and Baltimore emerges and returns to the weirdness and openness of 90s/2000s punk scene.
