Disappointment at the ED community

Well, since you take the time to needlessly bash SC.... $1000+ Spent on SC. Put over 20 hours into simply testing AC from time to time over the past year. $70 Spent on ED. Within 10 hours I felt like I had a grasp on every single game mechanic. Within 20 hours I was bored of the game.

Conclusion: I've spent 15x less money on ED than SC, but I regret spending that money exponentially more.

boldThe game objectively lacks content bold. Some people, like the OP, can enjoy the game despite this. In the grand scheme of things, this doesn't mean shit. People love farmvile, COD, and plenty of other titles that are undeserving of the revenue they pull in.

The $1000 I spent on SC, I spent on the promise of a game (i.e. I wasn't expecting a complete product for years). The $70 I spent on ED, I spent on a finished game. So then why is it that I have to wait a year or more for ED to actually get some content? This is no different than a big publisher releasing a half-baked game.

I'm a hardcore gamer. I need my games to have content. I can't simply enjoy a game for hundreds of hours, unless if has hundreds of hours worth of challenging content. ED had 10 hours worth of content. The only challenge to be had in ED is PvP and facing off against AI opponents who severely outgear you. Essentially, the only real challenge is PvP. Everything else is artificial, and no different than hitting max level in WoW without ever killing a single enemy (make your own challenge, woooooo). Mining, exploration, trading are all brain-numbingly simple and tedious. The game has so little content I can't even RP to add in more fun - quest givers don't have names or faces, the AI doesn't even scream one-liners at you. To RP in ED, I'd literally have to spend more time thinking up scenarios and backstories than playing, and I may as well just cut out the game and stick to my imagination at that point. At least in my imagination I wouldn't spend half the time in supercruise, and trading wouldn't consist of repeating 4 actions for all eternity.

People are mad with FD, and rightfully so. Games need two things. Content and gameplay. ED only has gameplay, and only a few facets of it are good. Immersion and combat are ED's two strongest points. Everything else is entirely lacking. No one bought into it expecting everything other than combat and immersion to feel like an afterthought. Who in their right mind launches an MMO without a friends system, or a functioning chat system? I shouldn't have to alt-tab to facebook just to find where my friends is, and then hope we get placed in the same instance if we're somewhere crowded. The content FD has been adding doesn't even phase the problems facing this game. All they've been doing so far is implementing systems that should have been present on launch. They still have to add more content across the entire board before ED can be considered finished (trading, mining, exploration, combat, missions, persistence, etc). Not only that, but the amount of content all the lacking areas need is actually greater than the amount of content they already have!

What's disappointing is how many people stand behind FD after it released this baby of a game. Since when has it become acceptable for developers to release unfinished products? Why is ED given more leniency solely due to it's niche genre?

I'm disappointed in the blind dedication and forgivingness of the ED community. If SC releases in such a sorry state, you can believe me when I tell you I'll be furious, as opposed to passive and hopeful.
