So...I discovered the reason why my dad hates Pokemon...help...

Not that I need to tell you any of this because you're obviously well aware of how absolutely ridiculous your parents are being. But maybe try passing some of this information along to your dad if you haven't already.

The incident your dad is talking about happened way more than a few years ago. It happened in 1997. Over 17 years ago, before you were even born apparently. The episode which caused the seizures aired one time in Japan only. It was immediately taken out of rotation and has never aired on television anywhere in the world since. The episode also resulted in a disclaimer being added to the start of all Japanese children's shows reminding them not to sit to close to the TV and watch in a well lit room. No episode of the Pokemon anime has had this problem before or since.

Also, inform him that while yes this one particular episode included a 5 second scene of flashing strobe lights that caused seizures, the seizures were not universal. Meaning that the serious cases in which children experienced seizures or nausea or other symptoms, those kids mostly (if not all) had some sort of epilepsy or were sitting too close to the TV (which again they now have a warning for). If you do not have a history of epilepsy, or if you have ever been in a dark room with a strobe light, you'd probably be okay to watch this scene anyway. Also keep in mind, that while epileptic seizures are serious, no children died because of this incident.

All of this is pretty stupid to have to explain though and you again obviously realize that because A) The controversy had to to with the TV show and you want to play the game which has nothing to do with the show. B) you're 16 years old. Nearly a legal adult. If you want to buy a game, buy it. C) It's freaking Pokemon. A game marketed for and primarily for kids. It's not some rated M game that you need your parents permission to buy anyway.

I think it's really fascinating that your parents would hold a stupid idiotic view against a children's video game because of one unfortunate but isolated and random event that happened in 1997.
