I discuss why Rey should not be a Skywalker, based on the events of TFA. - Podcast

Well I really urge everyone to listen to the podcast because I do go into a lot of detail. However, here is how I break everything down.

I do get a little emotional at times but it’s all in good fun. I first go into a lot of detail explaining how there is a complete lack of recognition between Rey and the other Skywalker/Solo/Organa characters.

I then go into some of the theories that try to explain the lack of recognition and why they are too convoluted and confusing for the overall story. For instance, erasing Rey’s memory, doesn’t explain why Han, Leia, Chewie, etc don’t recognize her (again I go into a lot of detail about this). This leaves us needing further explanation as to why Rey’s family didn’t recognize her. So by answering the single question of Rey’s parentage in that way, would raise too many other questions about the events in TFA. So from a story telling perspective it muddles up the continuity film, and makes us look critically backwards at TFA. Plus, TFA has already raised plenty of other questions about what’s going on in this universe, so why raise even more? I would rather have the answer to Rey’s parentage in future movies drive the story forward, instead of looking backwards at TFA. Now if Rey was not a Skywalker, and has a different origin, nothing is confusing or tarnished about the events in TFA. Anything that might lead one to believe she is a Skywalker in the movie, can be explained as a path of destiny. Meaning, that the force (or destiny) is bringing the two people together, Rey and Luke, who are capable in restoring balance in the force as a united force.

Again, I go into a lot of details and scenarios about all of this, so please listen if you can! I also have the episode on https://soundcloud.com/chatwithape if you are more comfortable listening to it there. Enjoy!
