Discussion about the "1% Problem" in MMO's

Thats why expansions like Demiplane was really great (if only the bat will drop the waist i wanted for 6 months), because it has a mixed of both contested content, but also instanced content. As well as other things such great group quest

But whilst catering for a niche market, it is just difficult for an MMO. Today you see MMI does not have 72 / 54 people raiding anymore. Take FF14 for example, finding 24 random already takes some time, let alone an organised guild who have 54 dedicated people raiding. And FF14 has a huge playerbase

EQ also went to become casual now. They introduced Merc to basically fight off hardcore players like me who would solo contents (I was a server top Mage) and to make sure people had enough bodies to form groups.

But as a side note, if one thing EQ did wrong, was making unnecessary changes and fixes that would make the game more fun for some classes too, and not based on balance, but not what the designers intended. For example, why did they have to nerf pet pulling. It was fun, dangerous as hell to do, but rewarding if pulled off.
