[Discussion] I know that we agree that cops are shit, but what about police dramas? What do you guys think, and do you have any critiques on them in general?

Not drama, but a related genre I used to watch a lot (and maybe still would if I wasn't so lazy): those "true crime" documentary shows like Forensic Files and The New Detectives.

They're absolute garbage. Sensational and reactionary narration, bald-faced promotion of the police and carceral system, probably just socially irresponsible in general.

There's always some episode where they're like "but investigators soon discovered he held a dark secret", and then the secret is just like, the guy was into BDSM or speed dating or something laughably mundane that nobody should care about.

And then they always make up these nonsense little narratives to heighten the drama; there was actually a whole series on Netflix (can't remember the name) where the gimmick was that each episode was themed around the city the crime took place in, and they'd concoct some absurd background based on that. For example, some woman decided she was sick of her girlfriend and killed her, very straightforward, but the show painted it as part of some long-running North Side Versus South Side tension. It was total nonsense.

Loved watching them anyway. Always gets me spooked as fuck. One of my biggest dumb-person guilty pleasures.
