[Discussion] Airplay: Outline for Debate

Everything is debatable about Gamergate but from the ethics world I would suggest

1.) The GameJournoPros email list. So we've got journalists in a group discussing how a story should pan out. It's important to mention that the group, was just really a hangout and 90% of the post were innocent. But we've got journalists clearly discussing a story, discussing how it should be covered among each other, and journalist speaking out against people who wouldn't fit the media narrative they were trying to create. This is an excellent parallel to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JournoList and is up for debate as a ethics issue.

2.) Allistair Pinsof and the outing Chloe Sagal. This is a really complicated case and it takes a long time to explain. But it's more or less Chloe Sagal was running a crowdfunding campaign where she said was dying and needed a operation, but instead was using the money for a sex change operation. Allistair Pinsof found out and sat on it, until after the Crowdfunding scheme ended and it was reported Chloe Sagal killed herself. At this point he revealed what was going on, mostly to deescalate this situation. At this point Destructoid his employer did everything they could to get rid of him. Now I understand that people say you should never out a Transgender, but you can't like use you Gender Identity as a defense for what is more or less fraud (In Canada although she would never be prosecuted it's possible to get 10 years for that.) And two it's difficult to find a more beta individual than Allistair Pinsof who clearly wasn't doing this to maliciously. So the two ethics issues are, was Allistair Pinsof justified in this case, but more important, why was he pseudo/actually Blacklisted on this issue.

3.) Lauren WainWright wrote a number of articles involving Square Enix products despite not only working for Square Enix (consulting) but also being good friends with Korina Abbott who at the time was a former Ubisoft PR exec but Square Enix employee. Without disclosing. Clear conflict of interest. But more than that Robert Florence having to step down for reporting it under a legal threat.

4.) Patricia Hernandez and just about everything. From her covering her landlord/roomate without disclosing, to her writing article about people she was romantically involved with, the article where she said Max Temkin was statistically guilty, provided no new information but said he shouldn't defend himself, and than it had to be changed completely because she was only starting a dialog about rape culture. All of this would never fly in any media outlet outside of the video game industry.

5.)
