[DISCUSSION] Comparing myself to others and being happy with your own playing.

I'm coming up on 30 years of playing, but I've not been very dedicated to it throughout. I probably peaked about 15 years ago - I was writing music, improvising leads that were surprisingly good, and learning songs that were beyond my skill level. But life stuff, moving, kids, guitar got unpriortized and neglected...until earlier this year that is. Now I'm more fired up to hone and not only get where I was, but beyond.

When I started just playing a blues shuffle was amazing, because it was music and I was making it. I've since easily surpassed any initial expectations I had of ability. In other words, I can play stuff that kid-me wouldn't have thought possible. But of course, as you grow as a player, hopefully so do your goals & expectations. It's an imperfect balance of being satisfied with what you can do musically with your desire to become better.
