[Discussion] Does world chat and remote whispers/tells ruin immersion for you? Do you have ideas on how to implement chatting better?

is this some kind of antifa sjw terminology because ive never seen it in any game for the past 15 years. heavy moderation kills immersion and it kills communities because it takes player agency away and instead of making things better, it makes them worse by forcing players to self censor which creates disdain and usually escalates things in other forms of communication or social media.

remember, so called toxic players are always there. They only become a real problem when the rest of your player base quits or stops participating in forums/chats and thats only because there is no longer any other players to disfuss their attitude. When a game's chat get 'bad', that is usually a symptom of a much bigger problem that needs to be addressed.

Obviously, a certain level of restriction should be imposed in order to keep the most amount of people happy. Nobody likes it when some little kid (or man child) starts spamming slurs just because they know a few cool words to make people upset, but at the same time when your community management or support staff starts draconianly enforcing arbitrary chat rules, it just creates an even worse situation in which people start baiting each other and people start using the report tool like it's a valid pvp tactic and ultimately people start being afraid to communicate with one another, which just leads to more people quitting.
