[Discussion] I'm tired of hearing 'X had no themes/depth/etc.'

I am already aggravated. I know we can have a discussion on these things lasting days. I don't want to, just like the people who say shows have no depth.

Its fine to find joy in analysis, but using it to elevate an objective view (note: objective not subjective, or at least as close to objective as you can get in a review for something based on taste) rubs me the wrong way.

Someone writing that essay about naruto is fine. I am also allowed to be dismissive of such a view as silly. If someone used such an argument as one reason to why they would call Naruto a great show, I would outright dismiss their entire opinion by throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

It taints discussion when the discussion isn't directly about that analysis. If we are talking about why One Punch Man is a fun show, and someone brought up the biker hero and the reasoning behind naming Saitama as Saitama, it destroys their arguments for the quality of the show for me.

I really don't want to or have the time to elaborate farther in this. In the end it is the fucking internet, on reddit, discussing children's cartoons and shows meant to sell blurays and manga. Its already a feat of black magic that you can find people taking anything said here seriously. Some people want to play your ballgame, others don't.

I don't let my hate of analytical bullshit from this subreddit sour my entire experience on it, and you shouldn't let people being dismissive do the same for you. Thick skin that brushes things away on the internet is a necessity. Relish the conversations and meaningful discussion you get and don't attempt to call out other people's behavior that doesn't align with your personal wants for discussion. We have a downvote system for a reason.
