[Discussion] Manipulative jerk trying to say that Topa’s arc is Transphobic, need to vent

I feel like the whole "bad representation" and "harmful stereotype" stuff can also be a bit unfair at times too.

One of my favourite shows has a campy gay character in it and a gay man made a post in one of its communities complaining about him being a stereotype, which is his prerogative, but quite a few gay men also replied back saying that they themselves were campy gay men and they liked the character and felt represented by them, which is also their prerogative. It doesn't seem fair that people who fit a stereotype like that should miss out due to people deciding it is harmful or bad representation. It probably also sucks to see people saying that characters that are like you are a harmful stereotype, because that feels like it has implications for the people who actually fit the stereotype.

I've seen that with groups that apply to me too, where I'd like to see a variety of representations within that group but other people are being like "this one is bad" and "that one is bad" yet I don't necessarily agree with them every time they do that. If art followed their lead, the variety of characters within that group would narrow, writers would be limited unnecessarily and people who want to see certain types of characters within groups that apply to them would just be shit out of luck. That's not fair.

It's not fair for some people to try to dictate which types of characters are allowed to exist or not. Let there be diversity of characters rather than go "this one is bad, this one is good" etc.
