[Discussion] Why do people have such big issues with signing in their computer with a Microsoft Account?

Lol about the Xbox account part of your post. That is actually how I started. About 7 years ago I got an Xbox 360, which started my first Microsoft Account. I only used it for Xbox and playing online with friends. I used my GMail address to sign up for this Xbox account. Even longer ago, I think it is 10 years now, I created a Skype account to chat with my best friends when they went to Greece once a year. As time progressed, Microsoft bought Skype and a few years after I linked my Skype to my Microsoft account. I also began to buy more Windows devices, starting with my Surface RT, which I have sold to upgrade to the Surface 3. I also had to create a Microsoft Account to get apps on the RT, so I did it. It's not like I hadn't already done the same thing for my Android phone. I linked my 10 year old Skype account to my Microsoft Account when I signed in from Windows 8 one time. Things were coming together. I started using the People, Calendar, and Mail apps in Windows 8, but I never was satisfied with syncing because I could never change contacts on my tablet or laptop unless I signed in to my Google Account on a web browser. This is what spurred my adoption of Outlook.com. I changed my Microsoft Account alias to an outlook.com one. I called Microsoft customer support to make sure I did it right and didn't lock myself out of the other accounts I had a long history with. Not long after I saw Windows Phone 8.1 and was most of the way through Computer Science in my university career. So I bought a Windows Phone with the intention to develop for the Windows ecosystem. Since then, I've fully integrated and never gone back. It's much easier to be on one ecosystem or the other to me. My parents are on all three and are doing fine, but they don't use computers the same way I do so it makes no difference to them that they have three accounts.
