[Discussion] Protocol With Your Dog During Traffic Stops and Routine Encounters with Law Enforcement

I've been pulled over for speeding 3 times, all of which have involved me heading to a dog related activity.

I drove from IN to St Louis at 5am for an agility trial, and got pulled over for speeding like a bat out of hell. My radar detector went off, but based on how fast I was going and how fast he was coming at me in the opposite direction... too late. When he asked me how fast I was going, I didn't say anything. I slammed on my brakes at probably 100, sooooo I wasn't really sure how fast he clocked me. 93 in a 65, 2 more and I would've been arrested. BUT SERIOUSLY, has anyone driven through IL on I-70?!?! It's like a freaking ghost highway. No one is driving on it that early on a Saturday morning!! I could see for miles. What the hell was I possibly going to hit? ugh. But life lesson: never go 30 over.

I think he was actually shocked that I was sober. He came across the grass median after me like he was in a scene from Super Troopers. He walked up to a white rapist van with his gun half out to find a little bitty white chick wearing a tye-dye t-shirt with dogs on it and dog magnets all over the back of the van. He had to be confused as hell. I give him props for being totally polite and professional.

Last time I got pulled over, I got sassy with the cop. He made some smart ass remark about how he pulled me over because I made a wide left turn (went into the right lane, not the left) and I was honestly so mad I was being held up that I flat out told him, duh, of course I made a wide turn, it's a sharp turn and I didn't want to fling my dogs around. He looked at the dogs and was like... oh. okay... and let me go without a word. I mean, seriously dude. You're going to pull someone over for a wide turn? Good lord, get a life.
