[Discussion] [Rant] Why does Konami loves dragons and hate spellcasters

This is true. Spellcasters have always had steady support, whereas dragons have only fairly recently had a lot of explosive support.

Anyone around before Kaibaman was released in the card trader will know that dragons were not viable at all. Kaiba's Peak Performance was the least utilised and least competitive field spell because of the lack of good dragon support. In fact, I'd argue Kaiba was the second least competitive character (after Ishizu) for a very long time. Beatdown was completely worthless before Crimson Kingdom. This is totally undeserving of the best (without using heart of the cards bs) duelist in Duel Monsters anime.

Kaibaman at least made Last Gamble BEWD decks possible, but even pure dragon beatdown decks weren't viable before Vanguard of Dragon.

DM, DMG, Sage's Stone, Thousand Knives and Dark Magic Attack have been in the game from the start. Legion of the Fiend Jester came out in the 2nd mini box, giving Power of the Dark DM decks a brief stint as a Tier 2/3 deck. The recent packs have lots of spell counter cards and spell counter support (not viable yet, but the foundations are there).

Of course Spellcasters should have more support in future, but as someone who has been playing since January, I'm happy dragons and Kaiba are having their moment to shine.
