Discussion regarding internalized homophobia in Islam?

The brain is a very complex thing, neuroplasticity shapes our perception of reality. If we are taught to believe that something is “true” our whole lives, facts and logic and reason and evidence etc, all kind of bounce off us.

We succumb to selective skepticism, motivated reasoning, confirmation bias etc.

But that same neuroplasticity can also allow us to break free of this.

But without something to replace it with, it’s like trying to remove one leg of a table or chair. You leave the person feeling unbalanced and lost.

But when you have someone that’s got everything to gain from ridding themselves of a harmful dogma, then this change can occur much more easily.

OP doesn’t need to stop being a cultural Muslim, she can pray and fast and celebrate Eid al-Adha, read the Quran, and partake in the cultural traditions of Islam.

But she doesn’t need to believe that a powerful omnipotent, omnipresent deity is going to punish her for finding love and happiness in a gay relationship.

That part of Islam sucks and is totally toxic and hateful.
