[Discussion] Tell me about your brush and sponge cleaning routines

How frequently: I wash my liquid foundation (well, liquid BB cream) brush after every single use, because it grosses me out otherwise and I only have one brush right now. Eyeshadow brushes and generally cleansed more than washed and usually after every use and more to remove product than anything else, and generally the others are powder use only and are done every now and again, either cleanses or fully washed.

How/with what: Generally for a full wash, and always for my foundation brush, I use soap, water and a mini Sigma mitt that I got as a freebie. The soap varies from BE antibacterial brush cleanser from Priceline to Dettol antibacterial handwash to whatever is in the bathroom at the time. I'm not picky and they all work just as well as each other, though I do prefer that whatever I'm using has antibacterial properties. Then I wipe them on a clean towel, may or may not put on a brush guard, and lay them flat to dry. I stopped hanging them upside down a while ago after I read that can affect the glue.

For an inbetween/quick cleanse, so say for my blusher brush or eyeshadow brushes, and more to remove product than anything else, then I either use a Simple makeup remover wipe or some Mac brush cleanser fluid on a cotton pad or tissue. Depends on how lazy I am being and how long it's been since their last full wash. Also almost all my shadow brushes that I like to use are double ended, and it's easier to cleanse after every use than wash.

Basically I just watched a couple of YouTube videos on how to wash brushes (Lauren Curtis has a good one) and read a bunch of posts on MUA and went from there. I'm not acne prone (all my acne is hormone related from PCOS, sadly) and I'm lazy, so I'm not the most thorough. I do feel like Dettol antibacterial handwash cleans better than anything else I have used and often gets the tips of my real foundation brushes back to white. I'm also not too concerned on destroying my brushes as I feel like the ones I use wouldn't be that expensive to replace.
