The BC carbon tax is a model for the rest of Canada and the world. I think a lot of its success comes from it being very explicitly and openly tied to income tax cuts (personal and business), which are a great way of showing the benefit/the return we get on carbon taxation. The federal government is taking a different tack in tying their carbon price to a rebate direct to individuals, with more of that rebate going to middle and lower income Canadians. Their argument would be that the rebate combined with pricing in of carbon emissions changes the market incentives to support a greener economy while not reducing middle class living standards.

BC's carbon tax works, it just needs scaling.
