Unless a bunch of oldies die out and start replacing them with younger ones it’s highly unlikely that this happens in 10-20 years.

I don’t foresee tenure track positions opening up to an amount where women will end up half the department what with all the politics and male ego in academia.

I had male professors say women weren’t as capable in mathematics, members of my own cohort believed it, and even people I dated outside of academia. It’s a wholly lonely and exhausting endeavor and drove me out...there were other more dramatic and traumatic reasons in my case but still. Being a grad student is very hard. Many suffer mental health issues greatly. Being a minority or woman just doubles because you face those nasty attitudes frequently and have severely limited power to speak up.

But it’s good that there’s a critical mass of women. That usually helps with making this environment a bit better.
