Some of Reddit’s takes on police reform really leave a sour taste in my mouth. Does this country need massive reform and overhauls of law enforcement at the local and state level? Are some of the actions of local law enforcement agencies around the country abhorrent crimes against humanity? Absolutely. But to say “all cops are horrible people who deserve to die” is incredibly divisive, along with being counterproductive to actually fixing these problems.

I am a student at Michigan State University and was on campus during the mass shooting several weeks ago. MSU, for those who don’t know, is a campus of 30,000 undergrads and 50k total students. The fact that a fucking mass shooting occurred in a central location of a campus this size on a weeknight and only resulted in three deaths is a testament to the extremely rapid and coordinated response of the MSU police and local 911 dispatchers. For the four hours I was locked in my room listening to the police scanner, I could not have been more grateful for their presence and protection that night. These people spouting extremist bullshit need to gain some fucking perspective. And that goes for both sides of this argument. Anyway, rant over.
