Discussion Thread: Hawaii Primary

This.

Her answer as I interpreted it was, it goes with the territory when you have poor people running for office that they might use some campaign funds for things like rent, that's an understandable campaign expenditure for poor people fighting colonial/corporate oppression, it's a drop in the bucket compared to people who profit from the mass suffering and despair of workering people, and the issues were "remedied."

“When you look at what is coming out (about Ing) it is indicative of a working person running for office,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Some of the stories are about misfilings or a late reimbursement. But all things are ultimately remedied."

I hate Kaniela Ing as a person and I hope he loses.

That said, the system is set up so that only rich people and old people can even afford to run credibly for office, so the perspective of the average politician may tend to skew toward the wealthy and already powerful rather than the marginalized and oppressed. Some "missteps" as poor people and young people try to break into the system are understandable.

On the other hand, trustworthiness and integrity and competence and maturity and generally good character are probably the most important qualities for people to have in government and politics, so how foolish is it to tie your brand to someone obviously lacking in those qualities among others.

Not sure how she expects to build solidarity without trust.
