[discussion] Unpopular opinions thread

You live in a world where money and dollar amounts control everything you do and how you feel. How much is the piece of paper that a $100 bill is printed on worth? $100 by fact, but it's a piece of paper still the same as the shit I have in my printer when it comes to an actual use (being written on, not the sham currency).

Understand where I am going with this? It's fine to have nice things. I enjoy spending my money on other stuff. I'd rather pay 2x as much for a motorcycle that goes 3x as fast than pay 10x more for a watch that tells time better than another by 100x if I can't notice the difference when using it.

Spend your money on what you want. I'm not saying you shouldn't. I'm saying the original comment sounded like it came from an asshole who thinks everyone NEEDS a $1k or more watch to tell time because a Seiko 5 won't do the job even though he probably can't even unscrew the case back or notice any difference in the timing between either. The only thing most people recognize is the price tag and status that comes with it (which is fine, but don't shit on us "regular people" because we don't care enough to spend that amount).

I've got some Seikos with quartz movements that I like more than Rolex.

A watch selling in the market place right now is worth one thing. That could all be different tomorrow. It's not a fact. It is debatable since value isn't the same as price even though they're related. You seem to value more what price people think you paid for your watch than the actual timepiece itself.
