Google/YouTube/iCloud/Reddit/etc outages (sometimes lengthy, like YouTube the other day was out for half a day) happen 50x more than I can remember the last time my home electricity went out for more than an hour. Even my Internet outages are equal or less likely than those platform outages, and often ISP technicians will fix it within a couple of hours. People out in the boonies have the same reliable cell data access as Internet access, which is likely to be very slow, so they’re likely to use local storage anyway because you don’t need Internet access for external HDD/SSD.

Every type of storage will have cons, and people should use multiple options.
