I know. Big hug. I've got burned when when shit breaks off the bb and vwap in the past. It looked like it wanted to run hot though. I'm still kind of new on the day trade stuff. I should have piled into the weekly calls. Oh well live and learn. You were right on the bullish part though. Just a little off on the timing. It was a good play. Still stuff like that keeps me coming back but it also makes me want to just max out the 401k and Roth and just live off the dividends. Short term cap gains suck and then I live in a state that has large cap gain taxes as well. I lose over 30% of my short term to freaking taxes. Buy jacking up my 401k in mine and the wife's account I can lower our tax liability (for now). Yeah I could have maybe made 20k today on 1k bet and don't get me wrong I'd take the money in a freakinh heart beat but I'd be writing a 4k check to the government. Not only do I got to beat the index I have to beat taxes. I could trade in my Roth but I'm counting on pulling the principle out and doing semi retirement in my mid to early 40s. I can't risk blowing that account up.
You can't do anything if an analyst upgrades the stock and you are in a short position. In the same way I've had down grades screw me over in a long position. What you thought was dumb money was actually smart money moving in.
Sometimes I think I'm to risk adverse for my own good. Other times I've made the wrong call and me being a wuss has saved me lots of money. I'm about even with the index return wise right now. Going to give it another two years or so and then give up. Figure I'll give myself maybe 5k a year to gamble with. I enjoy watching stocks. However if I'm not making more than the index there isn't much point in trying to beat it. It was a hell of an spot on your part though.
