Disney needs to calm the fuck down.

Disney will calm down when people stop throwing money at them.

They recently realized there were too many people coming to Disneyland. The park was routinely approaching capacity, making it extremely "popular" inside. ("Busy" and "crowded" are no-no words. Disneyland Resort is never busy or crowded, it's "popular.") The talking heads from on high decreed, based on their projections, that an admission cost increase of X would discourage roughly 20% of Guests, making the park more enjoyable inside.

They activated the admission cost of X, and guess what happened? Only 5% of Guests were discouraged by the cost increase. The remaining 15% simply complained about the cost increase before handing over their credit card.

Disney is an entertainment giant. They're a self-fulfilling prophecy. People expect to spend money with Disney, because they're the biggest and the best, and in return they expect that Disney magic to be shotgun blasted into their face. When they get that blast of magic, they can't invest in it fast enough. Disney's MO is: money in, magic out, lather, rinse, repeat.

And how can you blame them? Nobody knows much of anything about BB-8, yet people are already obsessed with the "character" and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on BB-8 toys. The people clearly want to spend their money on BB-8 related products. Everyone wants to be a part of what appears to be a "cultural phenomenon," and if their children decide that they absolutely must have those oranges because they have BB-8 on them, well, they're eating fresh fruit at least, right? They can rationalize that they're not buying junk food or toys, their child is being fooled by the marketing, but not them, the clever consumer; they're just buying these oranges to feed their kids good food, and the Star Wars angle is a bonus that makes the kids interested.
