Dissatisfied with life. Suicide?

I can guarantee your family and friends would rather have you leave university than do anything else.

If you get out, just look for a job. Maybe an internship or an apprenticeship. Marketing internships are common, and a lot of the time they have good pay. A degree isn't the only way to start a career.

If you really can't leave university, switch to marketing if possible. It's absolute rubbish to say you'll only get a decent job from finance and accounting. They're equally valid (and generally equally paid) areas. And marketing gives you a whole bunch of transferable skills - a lot of the time it's probably the better of the two to get! People who say marketing isn't as important as finance don't understand how business works (my entire family is business based, and several close family members have successfully started multinational companies - I'm not just talking out of my ass to make you feel better).

As for clubs and societies, you should push yourself to go to one. You probably have no motivation right now because you have nothing to do. When you have no reason to be social, it's hard to see the reasons you should have. When you start doing something you enjoy, the motivation to do more should start to come back. (I actually found this when I arrived at uni - I was in a very deep depression that had lasted over half of my life, but when I found myself doing what I truly enjoyed I started finding that I actually wanted to do more, both academically and socially).

I really do wish you luck. In secondary school I was feeling the exact same things you are now, and for me university was the thing that helped. Maybe for you it's the next step - getting a job - that will help you. You have no need to force yourself to live in a place where you are unhappy. University isn't the magical key to unlocking a successful future. For some people it's not a good fit. If you find yourself needing a degree at some point in your career you can always do part time courses whilst still having a life and job you enjoy on the side.

This is getting long, but really there's only one thing to say: there is NOTHING holding you to this path you're on. If university isn't for you, get a job; you're friends and family won't be laughing or disappointed when you're bringing in money three years sooner and without the massive debt. If finance and accounting isn't for you, go into marketing. It's a brilliant career to start, and opens up many more paths for you in the future. Do what you must to enjoy life.
