"diverse" literature activism is depressing

I find this interesting because I went to HS in Ecuador where we had literature classes in both English and Spanish. Both curriculums were always based on classics but one year in the name of diversity the head of the English department (he was american) thought it would be a good idea to read these types of books for the English lit class. A lot of us complained because we knew reading the classics that are usually found in ur curriculums would ultimately benefit us as a lot of us planned to study abroad in the US. It was only when we pointed out that we had a whole class dedicated for classic Spanish and Latin American literature that we got the “old” curriculum back.
