I've learned to let stuff roll off my back unless it's something that's mean or hurtful. Sometimes people say stuff and don't realize how it sounds. My step-dad is bad about this. When we told him that we are looking to foster older children in the future he says "yeah, but those kids have a lot of problems though." Just have to remind him that that doesn't mean that they don't deserve a safe haven.

My sister in law adopted 4 siblings from foster care, my wife's friend has an 8 year old foster son, my wife and I have a 9 month old foster son with his little brother born last Saturday that will be placed with us. It's amazing to see their progression. Especially our friend's foster son, who was really shy, but has since became my little buddy over the shared interest of my cat and comic books.
