We aren't weaker on illegal immigration than we were 8 years ago, but we also need a pathway to citizenship. The number of people illegally crossing the Mexican border has dropped in the past few years compared to rates before. In addition, our legal immigration problems are the main cause for illegal immigration rates being an issue.

Our border is never going to be completely secure. It's impossible. The issue is how we tackle immigration. It's a grueling slow process and for many people getting away from their home country is a matter of life and death. So, we need to rethink programs that can help families that share a border with us so that we don't force people to skirt the law in order to survive.

Many illegal immigrants pay taxes and a fee for not being a citizen. They work, they get a paycheck, and they live just like most Americans do. Their status of being a citizen hasn't changed the fact they have contributed to our society positively for the most part.
