Doctor_Worm explains what Republican and Democratic voters have in common in terms of voting behavior and motivations

Nothing like an unfounded sense of certainty to assure you'll always feel right and yet never change your mind... how unlikely is it that your first idea is always going to be your best idea?

The core issue is that famines are caused by food distribution problems, not by food shortages.

If distribution is the problem then it doesn't matter if we are failing to distribute GMO crops or "regular" crops (whatever that means). So, this has nothing to do with the anti-GMO stance.

GMO's are driven by the desire to increase profit.

Unfair, inaccurate and only reveals a distrust of money. GMOs are mostly concerned with increasing yield. More specifically, they are concerned with increasing yield in harsher environments. Fundamentally, we are talking about growing more food. As food is then sold, a natural consequence is that a given acre will be more profitable. In that sense, profit becomes a useful metric. However, companies that make GMO seeds don't actually sell food. They just sell seed. So attributing that motive to them is wrong on two counts, not just one. More so, if they are successful in their endeavors, in a few cases, they will actually have to sell less seed.

It's is insulting in the extreme to attribute the profits of big-Ag as a motive for scientists seeking to solve the problems of hunger and poverty. That those scientists are employed by capitalists is a natural result of us living in a capitalist system. Without that system it is fair to say that we would not made nearly as much progress in either science or in the reduction of poverty. That's a different argument though.

Also, anyone remotely familiar with the topic knows about the legal issues arising from Monsanto's patent on their seeds.

You don't have to believe everything you read. Just because I post a few links doesn't make me right. However, you should at least consider reading some or all of these with an open mind. Even if you find a lot to disagree with I suspect that you will learn some things.

The rest of your argument I'm not going to touch right now. We'll just try to stay on the topic in the OP. However, some of your mischaracterizations are adequately addressed in some of the comments directly below the linked post.
