Does anyone else find BC kinda.. mean?

I felt the complete same!

I lived there 2009-2013. After the first year I knew it wasn't for me, I moved back (Toronto), but then went back to BC shortly after for love.

The whole time I was there, I didn't make any real connections, all the people I thought were my friends in the first year, when I moved home and then came back, none of them reached out to me or bothered to keep in contact at all.

I found the people to be largely superficial. Superficial in their relationships, like I said, no real friendships came from my first year, and most of the people I was close to, we were super close, friends, roommates, coworkers, we had a good friend group. Only one good friend that I still talk to from the 3 last year's.

My first year being back in Toronto for good, I made 2 real friends from a rec league. People are way more open in Toronto than Van. Vancouver ppl are surface everything.

Especially superficial in what they cared about (how they look, their car, their job title, blah blah blah). It all seemed fake. Whenever you try to make plans with someone you mostly get "yeah, we'll see..." Like they're leaving open the possibility for something better to do. Maybe it's being surrounded by mountains, but BC ppl are always climbing ...better status, better stuff...how can this thing/person serve me better.

Vancouver people are nice but not kind. On the surface, they're great, great province, very beautiful, lots of outdoor activities, gorgeous drives to the Okanagan or Whistler.

Toronto people are not nice, but are kind. We may have a rough exterior, and seem grumpy on the subway, but once you vibe with someone, you've made a real friend here. Our friendships love language is light bullying, but you know we have your back.

(Also, it's rainy 8/12 months, so you don't get to enjoy the mountain views as much as you expect, the summers are not very hot and winters are mostly gloomy grey rainy days, barely snows -- which is the only good part of winter IMO)
