Does anyone else feel like they are stuck in a rut in regards to housing?

My rent went from $1,775 to $3,200 here in Dallas. This is for the smallest 1-bedroom available. I spent months looking at places, and found something I don't like very much in a less safe area for $3,010. It was the cheapest option out of 12 buildings I looked at over the course of 3 months.

I moved here from Austin fall 2020. These numbers are insane. I was living in a luxury building in Austin downtown on the water for less than where I started here. The rental prices in Austin where I lived, and the comparable buildings nearby it have not seen this increase AT ALL. I considered moving back.

It's insane. I considered a lot of uncomfortable options (e.g. out of state or country where I don't know anyone for example), but for now, I'm staying and hoping to have a very different set of options in one year. I have no idea how people are managing this.
