Does anyone else living in Vancouver ever feel that living in this city is making you depressed?

Late to the thread but a couple of things I've noticed...

If you compare yourself to others, you'll always be unhappy. Be happy with your situation, whatever it is and remember it could always be worse.

Trying to see the correlation between big cities and decline in mental health for the reasons you propose. If someone is lost and has no direction they'll have that no matter where they are unless they happen upon their life's calling whether by chance or deliberate action. As the saying goes, wherever you go, there you are.

Cities are always going to be more competitive than smaller towns by virtue of population. The more people there are in any space the more opportunity there is and with that comes competition for the top spots at the end of a bottleneck, so to speak. It would be nice to have everyone be laid-back and caring in all instances but the reality is that infrastructure of massive cities can't be sustained like that. You do need competitive and perhaps antisocial types in some roles, they are preferable in some respects. As far as Vancouverites being more shallow and antisocial compared to other cities I wholly disagree. Absolutely not. Having only lived in cities my entire life I'd say the people of Vancouver are by far the most polite, considerate and friendly I've experienced, all things being equal.
