Does anyone else think that social media is helping to fuel a narcissistic and materialistic world?

I don't even get to see most of what my friends are doing on FB. It's all memes and marketplace posts, and ads. I legit went through my friends list yesterday and probably half the people on there I forgot I was friends with because I haven't seen a post from them in months and months.

I don't think people are trying to be the best looking or most popular or whatever else. Maybe we are different ages, but I'm 27, and now it's people posting about their kids, or their travel, or buying a home, which is normal almost 30 people things to do. I don't see any posts that are trying to one up others, just people living their lives, even if they're vastly different to mine.

I think if a person looks at social media and feels dissatisfied, they are the problem. Not to be a meanie OP, but I think if you truly look for the root of the issue, you'd find it's probably in yourself. I don't feel jealous if my friends by a house or go on a trip or take a beautiful selfie, because I'm happy with my own life and how I look and whatever else.
