Does anyone live in Stamford and commute to NYC?

I had an hour and half to 2 hour commute for a while. Its aweful and soul sucking. In the end spending 3 to 4 hours to work for 8 hours is just too much time. Leave the house at 7am and get home at 7pm is rough. Are you just including train time? Don't forget to add time to drive to the station park then walk to the platform and wait for the train. Then time from the subway to the location.

Going to south Brooklyn could be really rough. As the further you go the more chance something goes wrong.

You are best off finding something on the south shore of Nassau County and driving or taking the LIRR. Though the drive to south Brooklyn can be a nightmare at rush hour. Depending where you are the train could be a better option.
