Does anyone remember Pledis being ‘broke’ during Seventeen’s debut?

I obviously don't know what pledis's finances were like, but I'm pretty sure they bought a new building just before seventeen debuted, so they can't have been in really bad times. It was probably the kind of situation where they obviously needed a new group to do well, but not like 'going bankrupt' or anything (I'm also 100% sure that the rumor that the vice president sold his house to debut svt was made up in like 2019 by someone on twitter). I also feel like it was said somewhere that svt's debut was supposed to have a different style, but they reshot everything?? maybe that was why the mv was a bit low budget looking. they had a whole debut tv show though so I don't think they were that lacking in funds.

basically I do think people exaggerate how bad they were, even in 2014 orange caramel and after school weren't making no money, but it seemed like they probably did need seventeen's debut to go well too.

(I also think some of it comes from the hybe thing, like 'svt came from nothing! they saved their company from bankruptcy all by themselves' when people talk about hybe 'saving' pledis)
