Does anyone know the technicalities of switching internet providers?

It's not the actual Internet provider that "switches" the Internet. It's Openreach. A request is made to move Internet from A company to B company on X date. This then is passed to Openreach who say "OK. We'll do that by midnight on that day". If they mess up.. You have to wait. Nothing else you can do.

I had a customer service agent close my account by mistake and cut me off. Had to wait 30 days as its all on Openreach.

Also by working at home. Be careful. The Internet provided is for personal use only UNLESS you pay for a business Internet line which costs around £200 per month upwards. If you start calling saying you work from home they are within their right to just cut the contract up.

Souce: I worked in Broadband.
