The key thing imo is you have the shoulders fitting nicely on both! Ill fitting shoulders tends to show all the way down. I should know, I have narrow sloped shoulders and it is my cross to bear in life. Such a bitch.

The length you should be aiming for would be probably close to what Kate Middleton does I think, somewhere around the knee, erring on at or a couple inches below. I think what throws the black coat off is that when it’s open, it appears to go below halfway down your shin and it drags you down a little too much, particularly with the “heavy” shoes. So lighter shoes on the bottom might help combat that somewhat stylistically. But I think a 2-4 inches off the bottom would suit you best. Something just below the knee. For me that ends up being kind of an awkward length for some reason, I kind of have to commit. Maybe because of the shape of my hips- my weight tends to gain at the top of my hips....

Since they’re coats and are meant for layering, more room is typically better than less so I lean towards the black one particularly because it fits you nice on top even though it could imo be dialed in a little more. At the point at which you’re wearing a thick winter coat, people usually don’t like to walk around with it open the same way you would with a blazer or a leather jacket.
