Does a Game of Thrones Get Better?

No. Unfortunately I'll likely be buried for this but they honestly aren't that good as a whole. Obviously there are good parts and I managed make my way through all the books, ignoring the side characters (not knowing their importance), but with a huge amount of struggle. 50+% of the content is pointless, for lack of a better term.

There is too much detail and too many deadends. There's a reason the TV show distilled the books down to the essence of the stories and discarded all the fluff and was wildly successful.

I haven't read a lot of fantasy, just these, and Sword of Truth, and Once and Future King for example. So I'm probably not the right audience in the first place but if I had to redo my reading, I would skip these books.
