Does this GOP candidate actually want to ‘abolish’ the Department of Education?

It's not even all the ruling class, it really depends on where you get your money. If you get your money from exploiting cheap labor to maximize profits from goods and services, then you love the GOP and hate education. If you're in a business that depends on a skilled workforce like in silicon valley, then you can't get enough education and probably support Democrats. The simplistic version is this is rich vs poor, and to some ways that is true. But the more complicated picture is that it is clash of different interests with different priorities, of old economic business models of the industrial revolution vs the newer model of the information age. And the poor just get used as pawns by appealing to their tribal/cultural loyalties.
