Why does Jon need to bend the knee?

Neither Jon nor Dany will have enough time to worry about finding a spouse this season. Emilia Clarke herself, has shut many of these marriage rumors down. She states in an interview with Style magazine, “I think that she has ultimately put aside her own need for a man. She is so engaged and wrapped up in leading and being the queen and ruling and fulfilling her birth right that the idea of someone coming in and sharing that title is probably something she’s not comfortable with.” Marriage is probably the last thing on both of these characters minds, if they WERE to forge an alliance (which we know they eventually do), then the alliance would be built on mutual trust, admiration, respect, and need for each other.

In respects to a political union, there are only two REAL options for Dany should she choose to get married. Euron or Jon. (Bc both have lands and armies) And we know Euron was never an actual option. If it ever came down to it, both Jon and Dany know they’re the only real option for each other, and with marriage being the last thing on both their minds, they can take their time actually getting to know each other and cementing an alliance on other means besides marriage. That's what season 7 is more focused on, their relationship developing organically. And on the day marriage actually crosses these character’s minds (which will probably be season 8, w conflicts like a possible pregnancy, Jon's parentage, north v south) they will gladly choose to marry each other on their own accord.
