Why does my school think this is an appropriate question to ask kids?

It doesn't suggest that you SHOULD feel guilty about it, it only asks if you DO. It's for an AP research survey.

White people have undeniable privileges, but so do rich people, beautiful people, any people living in first world countries, etc. This doesn't mean that privileged classes have it easy, but in ways they have it easier than others.

For example, black and Hispanic wealth is a fraction of white wealth, and if you do get born poor and white, a white name will statistically get more job callbacks than a black name(https://www.politifact.com/punditfact/statements/2015/mar/15/jalen-ross/black-name-resume-50-percent-less-likely-get-respo/). Also, black people get longer sentencings than white people for the exact same crimes(https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2017/11/16/black-men-sentenced-to-more-time-for-committing-the-exact-same-crime-as-a-white-person-study-finds/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.a2ba2311169c). Black people are also more likely to get arrested for drug crimes, despite more white people selling drugs(https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2014/09/30/white-people-are-more-likely-to-deal-drugs-but-black-people-are-more-likely-to-get-arrested-for-it/?utm_term=.b879f181df79).
