I took my guy camping with me. I threw a pair of Doggles on him and then placed him in his carrier -- soft sided with mesh walls -- but to be safe put a leash on him and tied it to a loop in the carrier. I tied the carrier to the seat behind me and off we went.

He didn't seem to be loving it but he wasn't freaking out so I kept going. And he hates being in the carrier regardless.

At some point we're doing 120kph on a 2 lane highway and I become aware that now he's standing on top of the carrier. Cue freak out.

He somehow managed to get the zipper open enough to worm out of the carrier which, because its soft sided, collapsed under his weight so he could then stand on it. The leash was tied short enough so that if he had fallen he would have been dangling from the bike rather than dragged along the road. I have no idea how long he'd been out of the carrier. I was glancing back as often as I would think of it but it could have been minutes.

Anyhow that was enough for me. We turned around and I ended up going camping without my best bud. And as it turned out there were a lot of foxes in the area so he would have had to spend the weekend on a short rope which is hardly in the spirit of the great out of doors.

tl;dr Buy a proper motorcycle carrier for your dog.
