Dogs have ruined so much in my life and relationships.

We have 2 dogs. One I kinda got guilted into but who I admittedly fell in love with. The other, my husband brought into the relationship. We love both dogs very much (they're elderly), but we have both agreed that although we'll give our dogs the best lives that we can until they pass, we will not get another dog in the future. Because it isn't actually worth it.
And the reasons are what you stated. House training a puppy is hell. The destruction -- the chewing up furniture, getting in trash, etc -- is annoying at best and very expensive at worst. The barking is annoying. Going away for a weekend involves making arrangements and spending quite a bit of money on boarding fees. Dog hair everywhere.

We have decided we will never have dogs again. Just isn't worth it at all.
