I don’t think the public library understands what the point of a drop off is.

People are here saying that limiting the hours limits the usage and less staff demands less usage. This makes no sense. Less people aren't going to drop off books because the hours are limited. A more reasonable reason to limit the hours during COVID is so the staff can empty the box regularly and disinfect the books. I don't know what they could do to disinfect a book but I'm sure there is some silly thing they are meant to do. Rather than pile them up overnight and take the risk of one being infected and contaminating the others in some way, they want them dropped off during open hours so they can go get it and treat it. I don't think this box is even locked. Probably because they are going out and getting the book overtimes someone uses it.
