I don’t understand why people use social media

My rule for social media is that I don't follow anyone unless they follow me. So like people I know irl, I won't follow them if they follow me. That cuts literally all the junk for me.

I use Instagram solely to post photos and videos of my art. I have like ten people from classes that follow me, so I follow back. I do check every other day or so to see if anyone has posted anything (this is a recent habit I've developed, and I'm trying to stop), but thankfully they don't post that often so I don't check it that often. Also I purposely post my art so sporadically I never get invested in it.

Twitter is different and it's a little bit bad habit. I only use it for one and a half of my hobbies, because that's the only place I've found that has a group of people in the very niche hobby. I don't post often at all, mostly twice max a week unless there's an event in my hobby, so I limit myself there. I do check the news via Twitter and that is a really bad habit that makes me use it often, I need to stop that too honestly.
