Donald Trump to launch official investigation into voter fraud after claiming it cost him popular vote

There's a lot of evidence that the intent and effect of voter ID laws is to disenfranchise eligible voters rather than prevent ineligible voters. However, that's all stuff you can Google on your own and decide how you feel about it.

To me, the fundamental thing is this: I'm an American citizen. Voting is my right, and it's a legal act for me to show up to a polling place and cast my vote. Voter fraud is illegal. Requiring me to provide an ID to exercise my right is requiring me to provide evidence I am not guilty of a crime.

If voter fraud is a problem, then the government should gather evidence and prosecute the offenders. Attempting to address the problem by creating even the slightest of inconveniences for law-abiding citizens is un-American.

(And just because this is what seems to get thrown back in my face on this issue a lot, let me also make clear that I'm a Second Amendment absolutist. So if you're inclined, as others have, to ask why I don't have equally strong objections to how we handle background checks -- not to worry, I already do.)
