Why don't Americans include tax in the price of a product when displaying it?

It may have become a burden on larger stores in the past, though. Printing different price tags with non-standardized prices for every single product that all of the store locations carry. And when there's a sale on anything, reprinting just as many different tags again. If something is 50% off, that doesn't include the taxes.

Truthfully, you're right. It could be done differently, especially with modern technology. I'm not thrilled about cups, ounces, pounds, Fahrenheit, or miles either. But there's no push or need to change it at this point.

On a related note, T-Mobile does it with their phone plans. Taxes are included in the price they advertise, even if the taxes themselves change at some point.
