I don't care that r/WatchPeopleDie could be erased.

I do not subscribe there, although I do watch some content over there from time to time (I lurk there a few times per year). I've been suicidally depressed in the past, I don't think the sub should be removed. It's easy to dismiss WPD as a medium to provide a different, more morbid perspective in life, but life is no fairy tale and in that regard I feel like banning the sub (and by extension this kind of content) is a terrible way of thought policing. You disregard the therapeutic effect as messed up but let's face it, hearing that someone died is on a completely different level than somewhat closely experiencing it, simply because (most of) our imagination is limited. On a personal level I could never gauge the effect ending my life would have on the people around me, and to be fair, when you're at your deepest point in a suicidal episode you pretty much stop caring about these things anyway. Meanwhile, I certainly see how an outside confrontation can help some folks snap out of their internal negative downward spiral.

The same line of reasoning can be extrapolated to the everyday accidents, and it definitely changed the way I behave in traffic for instance. Do I have right of way? Still check left and right or surroundings in general. At a crossing for pedastrians? Again, always stay aware of your surroundings. See a truck back up while turning? Leave a bit more space or wait a bit, even when in a hurry. I see that you called this common sense in another comment, but still people occasionally die at train crossings because they think they can make it in time. Humans are imperfect, and I speak from experience when I say that my common sense isn't present 100% of the time. In the end, experiencing or being confronted with these things through trial and error is simply much more effective than hearing someone lecture you about these things.

Banning the sub after commercialised outrage would be pretty sad imo. Disliking content should not be a sole reason for banning communities either. I agree that comments pre-fallout often went a bit far, but in the end I personally don't mind dark humour enough to justify a ban. Stricter rules and moderation could suffice here I think.
